Bad Day At Black Rock

Thursday August 28th 2008. Bad Day at Black Rock Day! Earlier in the week a letter had been distributed to the residents where I live. A state agency was investigating a situation at the Village. Perhaps a resident needed more care than Independent Living was providing in a 55 and over "Retirement Community". I took a few personal attacks from neighbors !- HOA presidency. During that time a couple of the residents took their complaints to the Bishop... Relief Society President out of town to her daughter's wedding.... I'm in the Relief Society Presidency... Took a hit there! Thursday an employee, friend and neighbor was downsized.
Took a hit there! An hour later my sister called and said that my Mom had had a stroke and was hospitilized. Not Good! AT FIVE I DID A RIBBON CUTTING FOR A NEIGHBORHOOD PARK - AND WITH A SMILE ON MY FACE! Life is a challenge sometimes...... I was in bed by 9:00 p.m. emotionally drained, but at peace!

Weekend with the Girls

Thursday afternoon we left for our annual trip to St. George and Cedar City. We've been doing this for about five years. We try to cram as much fun as possible in a weekend and still be back home by Saturday afternoon to get ready for Sunday. I had an auditors meeting at 11:30 on Thursday....BUT as soon as I could leave I left..... I got to Salem by about 1:00 p.m. and by 1:10 we were loaded an off to pick up another friend in Payson.... We drove down to Beaver where we stopped at the cheese factory and had an ice cream cone.....then on to our Hotel in St. George. We checked in and then off to pick up our tickets. The first play was LesMiserables. What a show! It was quite a show.....very well acted and showcased the most beautiful voices. The play stared at 8:30 and ended at midnight..... Next morning we got up....did a little shopping....and "we ended up purchasing more than we could reasonably bring back in the SUV with six women and bags....so we had to improvise.....and later drove to Cedar City for "Fiddler on the Roof" This play was wonderful......Tivia was Great! We had the best seats - front row balcony.....Best Seats in the house! Powerful! We got back in the car drove to St. George grabbed a bite to eat......studied how we were going to get home our shopping buys and made a phone call to Rob - He now lives in St. George. Lucky he was home! He offered to help with the problem after breakfast Saturday morning..... Off to see Sound of Music.... Another wonderful production! A memory in the making with such wonderful friends..... We got back to the hotel tired but very happy. The next morning Rob came and helped us solve our problem.....Rob used to be the president of Utah College of Applied Technology and previously to that president of MATC..... He's always been a great friend to me and I'm grateful he was in St. George and able to help with the problem. He put our lugage on the top of the SUV and then we put our treasures in the back of the seat and everywhere there was a space. One of the girls had a favorite jewlery store....and we did partake of the bargains.....another friend knew about a boutique called Krumpet's and we did ALL partake which lead to our problem.....But WE ARE WOMEN - AND WE FOUND A SOLUTION...... We managed to get our bounty home and in safe condition! Much Appreciated Weekend!

Me and the Boys

Friday after work, Ken dropped off Ben and Nathan. Ken had a games night, and Heather had an overnight Scout event to attend.....Jessica was at girls camp, and Connor was at another Scout camp.....Grandma duty. We had a great time! I had some baby outfits to purchase - My V.T. companion had a baby, my V.T. is due, my H.T.'s wife is expecting, and one of the ladies I V.T. is expecting.....so.... I took the boys shopping.....then I needed groceries....more shopping....then we came home and watched a movie and went to bed. The next morning I took them for haircuts. Ah Grandma! But they enjoyed the haircuts, (Ben said the girl who gave him hair cut was HOT)
Anyway they got gel that was colored and sparkled.....impressive hair cuts..... Then we went home and did a craft project. They made race cars! I've been purchasing craft kits, and put them in a kids box, when they come to visit they can make one of the available kits. So far it works out pretty well. I get to spend some time with the grandchildren and they enjoy making something that they can take home.....and Mom and Dad get to deal with the treasure. All in All it was a good time with Ben and Nathan.

Busy Week

This is my new office space. During the move I had to create a little space to work, do a little work, create another little space, and do some more work. I came to the office in the morning tired and after I had all the excitement I could handle I went home and went to bed to start the whole process over again. I have some frames for pictures, but will put family pictures up as I get the inclination to do it. Year end closing has been a strain.....but as always I will endure. Our year end will be audited in September. For two weeks state auditors will be everywhere. For political reasons we will be under a fine tooth comb. Last year we had some serious problems. The President was sent home for two months for a percieved infraction, the C.P.A. quit two days before the state audit......a good thing! And the Utah State President retired..... Gosh I guess I should be able to handle this year too....I should be conditioned to HARD audits every year...smile....

July 1, 2008

July 1 st of every year is a RED LETTER day for a state accountant! It's the first day of our new fiscal year. June 30th being the last day of the fiscal year. This year had special challenges. My office was being moved! Moving day was June 30th.....and the movers packed up my office and slid the boxes just to the new office doorway. What a mess....in fact, my furniture wasn't delivered until the afternoon of July 1st. Oh yeah to add to the misery, new software start-up for the first of the fiscal year too. Heartburn squared!
